Graphical Designary..

This is the project I am working on alongside the Kony 2012 project. I am creating an identity for ‘Emma Rose Cups and Cakes’ a friend’s business that sells customised cupcakes and cakes.
This is the first draft of the logo that I have created. I have been in constant contact with the client and she has used this logo at a Cake Fair that she entered into with her products.

I feel that the logo I created would benefit from a redesign to make it more ‘edgy’ and less obvious as to what the business is about. I do not want to stray from the theme of pastel colours and polka dots, I would like to experiment with different ideas to make sure that the logo is fitting for the tone of the business.

Checkpoint 3

After looking into potential celebrities for my paper doll idea, and a discussion with a tutor, it has become apparent that the message for the project isn’t clear enough. It can be seen as obvious that we should be ourselves and not be blinded by fandom and imitation.

After coming to this conclusion, I do not want to waste anymore time with ideas and will work on a brief I was set a short time ago, a branding project for a cupcake and cake business.

Whilst working on this project I can then look into my previous idea of identity, or maybe even create a completely new project.

An interesting subject which is very graphic design based is Kony 2012.

Checkpoint 2

After a disscussion with a tutor, I am ready to start designing my first idea.

Idea 1 - Paper dolls: Message - Celebrity traits can be admired and partially imitated but you shouldn’t change who you are to become like these people.

You are unique, do not change to become someone else.

Outcome: A book where you choose a figure to represent yourself. You can dress yourself as a celebrity, but underneath (possibly with quotes) the figure will remain the same.

Idea 2 - Poster campaign: Message - (Same as above)

Dressing people us as celebrities/ Wearing masks / Hiding their identities / Taking photographs and creating posters.

A strong Disney theme coming through, just an example to show identity through eyes, to cover up by masks etc, or to emphasise?

Checkpoint 1

On evaluation of my research so far, I feel that my first project should be about following celebrities and using them as role models/idols.. I want to explore the idea of being unique rather than following another person.

I want to find a way to show people that they are unique and do not need to imitate someone else to be recognised. I want to show that celebrities can be looked at as an escapism and a role model through the ways of extraordinary talent.

My initial idea is to have a paper doll type project where I can create a figure to represent yourself and then by the use of stereotypical traits and accessories to dress yourself as a celebrity to show that celebrity culture is an accessory rather than a nessecity.

I also have the idea of using identity for a project by the way of masks and other objects. I want to explore this to show that underneath these accessories, you are a unique personality that is completely different to other users of these accessories.
