Whilst thinking about the front cover of my book, I thought for the back cover, I could include the same ‘theme’ but make it less ‘busy’.
The image on the right reminds me of the felt colouring boards you used when you were little, which ties in with the ‘retro’ theme, which I quite like.
I am unsure wether to include my name on the publication, if this is not needed, this can simply be changed to either the name of the book, or something else.
These covers are of the same design as before but have more ‘going on’. I like how the fonts in the left image, interact with each other and give the title more depth, but the black text clashes with the background image so may need work to make the title readable.
I like the overall feel of the cover as it has a ‘retro’ feel, which is relevant for the purpose of the book, with paper dolls being used for years, and with the colours and content, giving the book a modern twist.
After producing my Paper Dolls and awaiting the printing of the Marilyn Paper Doll, I mocked up some ideas for a front cover to my book. As the costumes are life-size, I feel a life-size book would be an interesting idea and would definitely be something different.
I decided to use an image of a recognisable wig or costume so the audience would be drawn to the book (regardless of the actual size of it!) I wanted to have black and white images as I didn’t want to give too much away as to what was inside the book.
I chose pink type as the book is aimed at women and will be called ‘Paper Dolls’. As the images are black and white, I thought a simple pattern would give more life to the page.
I chose a ‘handwritten’ font to give the book a ‘handmade’ yet professional feel as the user will be interacting with the activity inside the book rather than simply reading through its pages.
After creating and sizing my Paper Dolls, I printed them life-size. I then cut them out to use to photograph my project. Since this photograph I have created a Marilyn Monroe Paper Doll as I feel she would be an obviously worthwhile addition to my project.
Whilst working on this project, the ‘message’ has been somewhat unclear. I feel that whilst creating the Dolls and thinking about the people who wear these outfits, I get the message that these people stand out, they are unique, they dress how they want to dress, and be who they want to be (or as much as they can whilst in the media spotlight) I added Marilyn Monroe because of her unique style and for the way she would be considered ‘plus size’ in today’s society but she was carefree and she embraced her shape and looked beautiful whilst doing it.

I am unsure wether to replace one of the Lady Gaga costumes for the Marilyn Monroe costume, as the other women only feature once.
I have created a simple generic body shape for my booklet and to test the figure I have placed the Lady Gaga ‘Telephone’ Costume on top.
